I want to help you as I help myself, so I created a couple of Google Keep Headers for you guys because Google Keep is amazing. Will being organized solve all of life’s issues right now? No, definitely not, but it can make a difference. Even though my schedule at home looks nothing like it did at school, having a schedule and being organized helps me feel accomplished. It makes me feel like there is some normalcy to my life. Keeping things somewhat organized during this time puts me in a space where I feel like I can conquer my days. (and/or anxiously awaiting for HBO to stream FRIENDS again) Whatever it is for you, try to incorporate it into your day! Seriously, even if its 10 minutes, do it for yourself because you deserve it. This includes bible reading and prayer, reading, crafting, listening to music, or binge watching Gilmore Girls. Guys, self-care for me is huge! This is a conversation for a later post but as someone who gets bursts of anxiety, self care needs to be factored into my days to keep my mind and spirit uplifted. I also took a minute to evaluate things that would honor my mind/mental health. As much as I often don’t want to move, getting up, putting on some workout clothes, and moving my body in any way always makes me feel better. I also considered things that would honor my body – daily movement - like yoga, a walk, or working out with my husband. Next, I did a quick view of what my personal week looked like – i.g., daily wake up time, weekly meals, TPT projects I wanted to work on, etc. I placed the date in time in my calendar so I knew what my expectations were with important aspects of school.

This included Google Meets with my students, Google Meets with my administrators, due dates for important events – report cards, course work, etc. The first thing I did was open my planner and scheduled events for the week. Now, let me be the first to say that if having no plan makes works for you – then do that! For me though, I needed to intentionally set some things in place to help me keep busy and stay mentally above water. When I realized that I needed to organize my life at home, I created a plan. It minimizes my anxiety and makes me feel in control of something during a time where I have control over what feels like nothing. I’ve been working on creating somewhat of a balanced routine so that I can give my students and their families my best, while keeping myself sane and not tipping the scale into a panic attack.Īs I work through week 6 of distance learning, I’ve realized that being somewhat organized and kept on a routine makes me feel better. Or with everything else we have going on, we might overlook something important in one area of our lives. While many may think working from home gives us teachers ample time to get it all done, let’s be real, life can be distracting and after killing our distance learning lessons, the to do lists may fall to the sidelines for longer than we’d like. Some days I wake up early, make my coffee, check in with students, and get tons of things done, and other days I’m in my pajamas till dinnertime. Life these days looks so different from what I ever expected it to be and while it has its perks – like sleeping in, drinking your coffee while it’s actually still hot, and using the restroom whenever you’d like, keeping a solid schedule while home all day can be super tricky. Never in a million years would I have thought I’d be able to wake up at 8am on a Tuesday in April, but here I am waking up to no alarm or place to be (other than my Google Classroom, of course).
